Our Lady of Lourdes in Tujunga, CA had its simple beginnings in October 1920 with a simple mass attended by 23 people in the Forester family living room. Twenty-one years after, a new and larger church that could seat 450 people was built in what is now the lower school ground.
Twenty-nine years later, Our Lady of Lourdes opened as a two-room school and expanded through 1960.
The present-day church now seats 950 people who were built in 1969 together with the rectory.
Today, Our Lady of Lourdes is home to a Church community with a parish school where faith formation is integral to the academic formation with great care given to the safety of the children on campus and its periphery.
We are embarking now on the formation and organization of Team Ministries in the Religious Education Department, the Confirmation and Youth Ministry Department and expanding this way of doing things with the different lay ministries and lay organizations/movements.
With the vision of celebrating the centennial of this parish in the year 2020, we have embarked boldly in putting a new environment inside the Church with newly painted walls and ceilings, newly refurbished pews and new carpets and tiles. We believe that we stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us and thus, we are called to be real stewards as heirs to the rich history and tradition of Our Lady of Lourdes.
On-going Formation, Organization, and Mobilization are the three-fold thrusts of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish as we journey to our centennial in the year 2020 and beyond.
